After multiple episodes of tension, plots and backstabbing, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting end
Spoiler alert - This article discloses details from The Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed murders, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
Out of 19 contestants, just a handful were left standing: Traitors and loyal players competing for the winnings.
Soon, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a shocking result that went viral and left him emotional.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he'd always been one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms quickly erupted with the news. "Most awful traitor ever being the most effective player," commented a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," stated another, while a third described it as "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK, gets to keep the entire winnings, with the final pot amounting to £87,500.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the season.
But his win still shocked viewers in shock, according to industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt about as likely as him keeping composure through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players summed up why no one had truly doubted him.
"He might have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"The majority didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate someone who is so charming?" questioned another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the show.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would be successful again!"
Thursday evening's installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on the network. There was an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as the episode revisited some moments from every remaining player's time in the castle.
As ever, Alan Carr gave us some of the most memorable lines.
"To be honest, I began the competition a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown close allies under the bus, I've eliminated beloved figures in plain sight. I'm clearly more deceptive and traitor than I thought."
Meanwhile, another contestant commented that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for England", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, several players appeared to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.
Carr emerged at the morning meal resembling a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, before changing into a bejewelled white suit.
But he was out-jacketted by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Following this was the competition, with the final players getting on board a locomotive called - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task saw them destroying images of former contestants. Have sympathy for one participant who managed to get hit in the head multiple times by the lid of a substantial container.
Before long, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
The deceivers did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to betray him," said one, while the other simply laughed.
And one did stick to his promise. Yet, having slipped unnoticed for most of the game, the other still got the most votes.
The last deceiver looked like he was in a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I did NOT want that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," said a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," posted another user.
However, there remained no time to focus on this departure. Soon, they were at the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players stood over the ceremonial fire. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
A player was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be betrayed last minute in that manner," said the eliminated player. Later, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant calls the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.
One player, looking incredibly smug, voted to end the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and it all came down to the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor was the winner.
For observers, the scene where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for outstanding scene at television honors," they commented.
Fortunately, the winner quickly regained composure from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and now I stand the champion," he said.
He also joked about that infamous murder - his best friend during the initial stages - by reaching over the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually occur. And we will miss it.
