Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key adjustments:
- Each team includes only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
