Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
