Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
