The Details Known Concerning the Fatalities of the Bondi Shooting
At least 16 people perished and in excess of 40 were wounded when gunmen shot at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian authorities have called a act of terrorism.

Reportedly a father of five children, he served as the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and acquaintances described him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child just a few months ago.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.
She told the events before the attack, explaining they were standing when the gunfire started. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.
The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having endured unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have announced that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
In a statement, a senior official said that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must eradicate,” the statement continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was also killed in the incident, as per reports referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number are still receiving treatment, with five in serious condition. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.
One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Described as a hero, he received gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. It has been reported he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He stated he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the attack. He told reporters he listened to “a large number” of shots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
