Emerging athlete preparing for major competition

Kai Trump can count on numerous high-profile backers when she starts her LPGA debut on Thursday.

The 18-year-old athlete, who happens to be related to a former US president, received a tournament invitation to compete at Florida's Annika event in Florida.

The former president, a passionate golfer, owns multiple international courses and frequently competes against Kai.

"He's quite skilled. I can't say much but we have tight competitions," she revealed.

She mentioned that Trump, who won't be present, told her: "Just don't get nervous."

"He essentially suggested to compete and relax," she added.

"To me, he's simply a regular grandfather. He's not attending for the tournament. He's focused on running the country, so he's somewhat preoccupied."

As an amateur, Kai has competed in only three events recently and holds ranking 461 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings.

However she can seek guidance from Tiger Woods, in a relationship with her mother.

"He stands as the best player worldwide," the young golfer said.

"And he's an even better individual. He told me to compete, relax, following whatever happens."

The golfer will compete against several most prominent players in professional golf at the competition, including second-ranked the champion, England's Charley Hull, professional Thompson and 2023 champion Lilia Vu.

Tournament organizers mentioned that her participation helps introduce the sport to different demographics, particularly among younger fans.

Kai maintains substantial online presence and recently launched a personal clothing and lifestyle label.

She begins at 17:30 GMT.
