Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic Tabletop Role-Playing Game
The intense universe from Tom Clancy’s The Division is being adapted into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration has been formed to develop a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s apocalyptic landscape. The project was revealed, with a crowdfunding campaign scheduled to launch in April of 2026.
"This project aims to deliver the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the tabletop, providing fans a new way to experience The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Launch products will include a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and several deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a deadly virus called Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, sending the nation into chaos. As the pandemic escalates, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, turning the city into a battlefield. To preserve law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. That’s where the players enter the story.
Work on the game has been underway for about several years, and it is reportedly finished. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a preorder system to reach a wider audience, specifically in North America. Production will start right after the campaign, with deliveries projected for the latter part of 2026.
An Innovative Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
An early look at the system confirms it employs 10-sided dice predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and strategic style. Players leverage skills or traits to assemble a handful of dice, typically from one to five d10s.
- Instead of adding results together, participants choose a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This dice is then compared against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a natural 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as increased harm or boosted support.
Combat Focus On Tactical Placement and Situational Insight
Fights stress positioning and environmental awareness, reflecting the video games. Factors like taking cover, elevation, or visibility have a direct impact success chances. This mechanic seems built to favor teamwork and smart positioning over simple statistics.
A Thematic Wound Mechanic
The way injuries is tracked adds a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a injury limit; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by lowering the size of their dice pool.
- At critical condition, an agent collapses, but they’re not knocked out.
- They may still crawl and perform restricted acts, simulating the "downed" state seen in video game shooters.
- Any player in this state must consult a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like trauma or mobility-impairing wounds.
A Ready-to-Play Adventure
A publicly available introductory rulebook will be released in the near future. It includes a pre-made introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group spearhead the search for a missing medical team and must thwart an assault by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that NYC neighborhood. More specifics and the full range of offerings will be unveiled near the Kickstarter start date.
