Approximately 55,000 homes have currently been impacted by the weather, with their possessions and shelters ruined.

Persistent storms over the past week have compounded the precarious living conditions of the hundreds of thousands of displaced residents in the Gaza Strip, as reported by aid groups.

"Horrendous" Weather Brings Severe Risks

A official detailed the weather overnight as "awful", with rain so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the ground.

"Last night was exceptionally horrendous for the residents. The heavy rains were so strong... And the gales were so strong," noted the spokesperson.

Officials express grave concern that minors residing in tents in damp garments will succumb to hypothermia and additional sicknesses.

Fatalities and Widespread Destruction

Medical officials have reported that one baby has passed away from hypothermia and no fewer than 11 other people have lost their lives in roof cave-ins triggered by the severe weather.

Additional accounts suggest a greater number of casualties. Spokespeople stated that several residential buildings had collapsed completely and dozens had collapsed partially.

  • Almost 55,000 families impacted by rains.
  • More than 40 emergency refuges severely flooded.
  • Countless residents required to find new shelter.

Assistance Distribution Deemed Inadequate

Organizations have escalated distribution of tarpaulins, bedding and garments after the truce began, but they have said there is remains not enough aid getting in.

"We are working relentlessly to deliver that assistance and to hand it out, but the magnitude of the necessities is so immense that we continue to see a great number of individuals and minors who are really struggling each evening," cautioned one official.

Ongoing Concerns and Truce Provisions

The subsequent part of the agreement involves proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the pullback of personnel, and other provisions.

Aid bodies have stressed the necessity for "greater and continuous humanitarian assistance to address pressing and long-term requirements."

The conflict was triggered by an offensive in October 2023. Later actions have led to a significant number of lives lost in the territory, based on health ministry figures.
